SPRINGFIELD — Sunday saw a lot of swimming go down at Art Linkletter Natatorium on the campus of Springfield College, and Berkshire County had a hand in most of it.

At the first combination of Central and Western Massachusetts in the MIAA swimming sectional championships, local student-athletes competed across the board.

The girls race in the morning was highlighted by a championship won by Wahconah swimmer Ellie Field in the 50 freestyle. The County also claimed two runner-up spots, with one going to Field in the 100 freestyle, and two coming out of Monument Mountain freshman Asa Stone. Stone finished second in both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. The Spartans placed fifth as a team, also getting points from all three relay squads, which placed fourth twice and third in the 400 freestyle relay. Olivia Raifstanger also provided Monument Mountain with a podium spot, snaring No. 7 in the 100 breaststroke.

In the boys race, the Spartans saw another podium, with junior burner Nick Dillon climbing into the No. 8 spot in the 200 individual medley.
